Doughnuts for Dad was the theme for this morning at my son's elementary school. All of the dads come to have doughnuts and coffee with their kids. (Thankfully the kids do not have coffee). It's a time for the children to honor thier dads. My boys enjoy this event even more than the Muffins for mom morning. Having Daddy come to school with them is, well....., extra special.
I smile as I reminisce about our parenting journey. My husband went from a man who had never even held an infant to a dad who helped Dr H deliver our third child. My husband is an amazing dad.
He brings joy even to the mundane tasks of diaper changing and potty training. Many a happy dance has been done in the Patterson household over a job well done! Simple things that could have gone overlooked are celebrated and high fived. Nothing beats a high five from your dad!
Even though he would say differently he is patient; able to sit through, (I suspect he could be snoozing), long tea parties and aurduous math home work. He teaches the boys all about tools, cars, trucks and allows them to try thier hand at repair work.
He shows us all the example of helping a friend out in time of need. He volunteers at church, work, and in the community, showing us the importance of service to God by serving others. Yet he places importance on the time he has for his family, keeping it all in balance.
He puts the needs of his family above his own, which has been challenging, as he is young at heart and dreams of cars, motorcycles and the latest gagets. It is something I know he's had to pray about to keep in check.
He is very calm and reserved slow to anger and rarely yells, even though I do not realize it, he says that this takes incredible self control. Something else which he prays for.
We are very blessed, and tis the season for Happy Daddy's Day!

Dear God,
I am thankful today for the amazing man You have given to me. His love for You is evident in the way that he lives his life. His spiritual leadership, by example, is so beneficial to our family. Our children learn by watching him and it matches what he says. What a wonderful gift from You. In Jesus Name, Amen.
The fruit of the Spirit is the foundation of our life in Jesus Christ. When Jesus is at the helm these fruit are evident in everything we say and do! What fruits are in your basket?

There's just something great about doughnuts and Dad....I agree! We have started making Krispy Kreme our place to celebrate special family events with Dad.
And it's not easy for dads to be Dad. It's also tough, as moms/wives, to try and stand in their shoes. It's helpful, though, because they have a very difficult role to fulfill and it can be weighty on them.
God has given them a mighty role in the family and the Bible has lots of help for them. One of the best things we can do is pray, especially if they are not ones to pray for themselves. (I'm glad Mr. P. is a praying Dad, because it shows in your kids and in your relationship with him how God works in you all!)
Awww - I admire Mr P. He is a great dad, and an awesome leader for your family.He's also a good friend to "Mr. Chatty Kelly" and we appreciate all of you alls friendship.
