Stepping Stones

We began the project of making stepping stones the other day. First of all, we needed a disposable container to mix the cement in. The perfect one was in the freezer with just enough ice cream for a mid morning ice cream snack! The kiddos were delighted to have ice cream in the morning! Here is the conversation that ensued.
My Oldest: You know if we were millionaires we could have ice cream every morning for breakfast!

Mom: Do you think millionaires have ice cream every morning?
My Oldest: Well, I don't know about EVERY morning but they could if they wanted!

My Middle child: We could be millionaires if we mowed peoples grass.
My Oldest: We would need to mow about a 100 yards a day but together we could do it!

And so a brothers business adventure begins! (Even though if they become millionaires their teeth might fall out from all of the sugar!)

Later that same morning we made the stepping stones.

Stirring the concrete....almost as fun as making mud pies!

Then decorating...........

We decorated with decorative stones that came with the kit and also small toys that they have enjoyed like: match box cars, army men, Legos, and Elmo!

What a fun morning. I love their talk! It is amazing how we all think "millionaires" have everything their heart desires, like ice cream for breakfast. (And at least they could afford the high dental bills!)

Like Dolly Parton says "Money CANNOT buy you happiness...but at least you can dress nice while you are depressed." I love that quote!

I had started stepping stones with D#1, thinking that we would make a new one every year. (Her first one has her footprint in it!)

It's fun to do something together and then to showcase the project for daily use. One day, they will look back and remember their favorite things, and you'll remind them about being millionaires, and the brothers will have a whole new scheme in mind by then. (And maybe they'll even include their sister!) :-)

Such fun!

Stepping Stones are fun to make. When my kids were younger, we made some and gave them to their grandparents. The grandparents have since moved and the stepping stones moved also and are even now placed where everyone can see them.....hey, no fair....you just reminded me of a good memory! thanks.

We made stepping stones for Mother's Day this year and gave them to our moms as presents (all three kids put their handprints on one for each grandparent). They loved them and they are proudly displayed in each of their gardens. I love memories like this and what fun it adds to the day!
